Sadhana’s Youth Ambassadors are youth aged 15-25 who shape and co-lead Sadhana’s youth programming. Youth Ambassadors also function as liaisons to the broader community of youth we serve.

Jagdesh Churaman

I graduated from Stony Brook University with a Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry. I enjoy watching and playing basketball as well as solving puzzles and riddles. I chose to be a youth ambassador for Sadhana because I wanted to help involve my peers and the up and coming generation in a welcoming and nurturing community to bring out the best in all of us.

Jagdesh is a member of the Shaanti Bhavan Mandir.

Chandni kalu

I’ve invested in learning various divine scriptures, readings from influential philosophers, and languages such as Sanskrit, Hindu and Tamil. I am pursuing a track as a future Pandita in the Shakti tradition. I’m also involved in several faith-based organizations that  further the discussion about the importance of women in both Hinduism and Shaktism. I am a Sadhana ambassador because I really respect what Sadhana represents in the broader Hindu religion and the fact that it incorporates progressive views on gender, environmental and social justice issues.

Chandni is a member of Shri Shakti Mariamma Temple.

Hemma Kilawan

I am currently a sophomore at Stony Brook University, majoring in Biology. I'm passionate about preserving our environment, as well as our faith. By becoming a Sadhana ambassador, my end goal is to eventually see these discussions move from the salons and into youth's everyday conversations.

Hemma is a member of the Shri Trimurti Bhavan Mandir.

Ron Kutayiah

I attend the Shri Shakti Mariammaa Temple at 105-22 101 avenue Queens, NY. Since I was a child, I’ve been inspired by Hinduism and it's scriptures. I spent my time learning verses from the Mariamman Thalattu, Bhagavad Gita and the Devi Mahatmayam -- these all influenced me while growing up. I am also proud to be a youth ambassador for Sadhanna. I believe firmly in Sadhana’s mission and its progressive views, as well as the orgainzation’s will to build a broader platform for Hindus and a voice for social justice across the U.S.

uma paras

I currently attend Queens College and am aspiring to be a speech-language pathologist. The arts have always been a passion of mine, I have dabbled in dancing and painting, and have been singing for the past 8 years. I chose to be a youth ambassador for Sadhana because it is a great forum to express unspoken thoughts with peers of different backgrounds and perspectives, as well as a good opportunity to network.

varun paras

I am a senior at Benjamin N. Cardozo High School. In my free time I enjoy drawing and listening to music. I am a Sadhanna ambassador because it gives me the opportunity to get more involved in my community.

Varun is a member of the Shaanti Bhavan Mandir.

Laveena Singh

I am currently studying psychology and biology at Queens College.  I have been surrounded by music my whole life, and have been singing and playing harmonium on and off myself for about 10 years.  I attended the East Indian Music Academy from age 9-14. I chose to be a youth ambassador for Sadhana because Sadhana’s salons are a great way to see other people’s perspectives on our scriptures, and how they interpret things differently.

Laveena is a member of the Arya Spiritual Center.

I'm a young woman who cares deeply about my community and the people in it. I'm also extremely passionate about social, political and environmental justice, which is why I'm a Sadhana Ambassador. I now have the chance to connect more with my culture, and spread awareness about causes that impact us every day.
