For over a decade, Sadhana: Coalition of Progressive Hindus has been coordinating beach cleanups at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge in efforts to promote eco-friendly worship and volunteerism. We have heard recent complaints of worship happening at the Bay that harms Prithvi Maa - the antithesis of the Earth honoring traditions dear to Hinduism. While blame may be unfairly cast on Hindus every time there is an issue, there are many Hindus who have been advocates of environmental justice and sustainability who have joined our cleanups.
